Anouar Majid featured on front page of ‘Chautauquan Daily’
Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs and director of the Center for Global Humanities was featured on the front page of the Chautauquan Daily to promote his lecture at the pretigious Chautauqua Institution on the state of Islam and religion in the modern world. Majid’s lecture is scheduled for August 7, 2015 at 2 p.m.
Majid called for a careful examination of world religions and stated that one of Islam’s defining features, monotheism, is problematic because of the strict cultural boundaries it establishes. Majid said it also leads to misunderstanding on the part of non-Muslims.
“Islam is an inextricable part of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and that is something that seems to get lost in the discussion because people think that there is a West and Judeo-Christian culture as opposed to Islam,” stated Majid. “This polarization is absolutely confusing and false.”
