Ali Ahmida speaks on Libya’s current security situation on ‘Al Jazeera’
On June 16, 2015, Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science, was interviewed on Al Jazeera television for the “Min Washington” program about the current security situation in North Africa, primarily in Libya.
In the interview, Ahmida argued that U.S. interests in the region are still significant and should not be overlooked, that the Obama administration’s strategy of leading from behind and leaving Libya to the European Union is misguided, and finally that a military strategy requires a plan for a firm blocking of arm exports as well as national reconciliation among willing political actors.
Unless such engaging policies are applied, Ahmida said, possible threats to Europe, terrorist organization and civil strife will not stop.
